some of these post are almost two years old and having the same problem. I love this little program but it just doesn't work even with xp i had to reinstall every now and then to get it to work. It hasn't been updated for at least a year that i . I get the feeling it not going to get fixed soon.

Huh?

Perhaps you are using a 2 year old build - that doesn't mean it hasn't been updated.

The problem is that the issue that some Vista s (including myself) are encountering seems to be becuase FDM is not working - I wonder if it has to do with hte mirror search and Vista's native firewall - it is pernacious....

OK, I may ahve an answer (that most of these folks may have already figured out, hence the lack of participation in this thread from 2 years ago).

Basically, when the installer runs on Vista, it runs with elevated privileges. When you allow it to start FDM, it starts FDM with elevated privileges - unfortunately, elevated privileges means you cannot parameters (like URLs) from a non-privileged app.

IOW< since IE / Firefox / Opera / Netscape / whatever is not running as , and FDM is *on install* FDM cannot accept the URLs thathte browser tries to send it, and so it fails.

This should not be ahppening in XP, so XP s that are experiencing this issue have something else in the way (such as running as a limited , etc.).

FWIW, I should have caught this long ago, but I only just bought my new Vista 64bit machine 2 days ago - and my last Vista machine was 32bit, *and* I was running Firefox on it, which had no issues with FDM, which I probably rebooted after so it ran with default level privileges.

Also, in retrospect, those htat have UAC turned off may not run into this issue (obviously) as there is no prompt for elevation (but my understanding is that with UAC turned off, you don't actually run with elevated privileges, but any program that needs it gets it without an actual prompt from from the system for acceptance, so, in *theory* this should have no effect, and even s with UAC disabled *should* get erros on the first run from the installer.

I hope this helps all the future Vista s out there that are having issues.

lost most control of my fingers so pleaqe bear with me, it hurts like hell 2 type.

I'm running vista ultimate 32 bit - UAC off, 4 gigs, SP1 & Explorer 7 not firefox. the latest version (FDM 2.5.755) installs but doesn't do anything when i select multiple files 2 ..works great with single s.

I'd sure like 2 see this fixed this is a nice piece of software and allows multiple s.. unlike fgets which uses a universal pw.. Many flashg.t .. s are going to this software.
very nice.. but i'm back 2 fgets until this is solved only because i work with many multiple s.

thank u

Explorer crashesin Vista 183358

TEEH » Tue Aug 12, 2008 7:31 pm

When I closed one Window in my Vista home Dell XPS system, explorer gave me an error and has to close. After I uninstalled the FDM software everything went to normal. Any idea ?

Thanks

FDM is (was!) my preferred product: now I’m in Win 7/64 and it does not run , not even with IE8/32. Error exits 0x800702e4.
On a notebook with Win 7/32 all is OK. (??)
Can I have an aid?

This error certainly seems to be permissions related. My solution was to configure the shortcut to "Run As " and I no longer get the error.

I have no luck with the " Selected with FDM" IE8 context menu...it's just ignored, but the Dropbox works okay with single file links...
