[section9] - Disk write error - Unknown error - [23] 693158

well, the topic sais almost everything.
I'm ing a file (4434 mb). I do have ntfs as file system. Everything worked alright. I was at about 28%, and section 9 stopped, just that one, with that error msg.
All other sections still just fine. But I get the same error every time I try to start that section again.
I've restarted the tool already, same msg.

I'd like to know if anybody has an idea what to do now. Is there any way to fix this? To save this ? If not, is there any way to prevent it from happening in the first place.
Will it happen again if I just restart the complete thing?
And, any idea what can cause this?

I'm open for all suggestions pretty much

regards, Yvonne/hoodoo

well, I can't give you the url. The server I'm ing from is a private server of a friend he wants it to stay private. I know that's now what you want to hear but I'd be betraying his trust.

I'll help out with the other infos though.

As already said, I do have ntfs. Windows XP, not sure where I see the service pack though.
I use fdm 2.1 build 494
I use both IE (verion 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050928-1517
and Opera (version 9.10 built 8679)
not sure which one fdm is using though.
For virus tool I'm using norton and just the buildin firewall. I also have a wireless router, I know they sometimes give a pain with s (but of course in this case the ing works fine otherwise)
Proxy I just use what the standart settings of fdm suggest.

It's possible there is a problem with really large files. I've tried 3+ GB s but not 4.4 GB. I know of one other manager that can't 4.1 GB (Knoppix) ISOs.

I'm trying w/ FDM but don't have much space left on my drive.

Here's the URL if you'd like to test it.

ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/dist/knoppix-d ... -04-EN.iso

well, I've ed the second of the two files without problems now.
And it was faster than I thought, so for now I've restarted the other one. I will see if it happens again.

Since I could not find an answer myself I'll just post what happened here in case anybody else has the same problem and doesn't know what to do.

The went through just fine, no other errors. So in the end I had to restart it, but it was a one time problem and did not repeat.

What exactly problem? Do you try to a file using too many sections? In many cases connection number is limited by the server side and if you try to use more connections you may be banned.

No problem here with this file. Started, stopped, waited a few minutes and resumed OK. Then I changed section number from 4 up to 10, but total transfer didn't grow 2,5 times, it rather remained unchanged.
This file is located in Amazon cloud service, so every time you reconnect you may have different speed and different connection number allowed. The server cloud use some kind of load balancing, so speed connection may also change in time. In very rare cases server nearest to you may be temporarily unavailable and it takes time to switch your request to another server in the cloud, but if you still have problems with resuming, it's not a problem with the server.

And last remark - if you don't like automatic network managing, you can use manual settings for connection speed and other parameters.
