FDM 5 (free manager) is not next version of fdm 3.9.7, but absolutely new product. Another engine, another list of features. Should leave fdm 3.9.7 an develop as separate product.
Naming:
FDM 3.9.7 - FDM Classic
FDM 5 - FDM
or somehow.

I think you mean - keep FDM 3.x maintained and actively developed.15 wrote:Should leave fdm 3.9.7 as separate product.
Some people may understand "leave FDM" as "abandon FDM" or "stay away from FDM", so I have changed your poll subject to be more clear.
It would be even better to change FDM name - 3.x should be FDM Classic, 5.x should be FDM Modern.

Dear !Attacker wrote:I think, till now, FDM 3.x is better than FDM 5.x
FDM 5.x loses many functions of 3.x
even its startup time is longer than 3.x
You can vote for the features here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17512

Your not kidding one features that should've gone to v5 was time date stamp of to match server version. I put this on my priority v5 vote change. Matching dates helps to prevent ing of older version software or programs. That is what I use FDM alot for and one of them is Microsoft Windows Update where v3 does a very good job at but v5 does a very poor job at. That is why I reverted all my FDM back to v3 until more features/Control returns to v5 it will be not well used or received. And the UI is so limited that ruins one ability to set it for their needs. This is also why I punted v5 and now will stick with v3 until it acts more to the control first. Yes, I like the utility look but that is what this software is intended for and that is something v3 was very good at. So any FDM installs will be only v3 not v5. I need form and functions not just form and v5 doesn't fit that need.

Looking for a manager, i found the portable app version of FDM is
http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/f ... r-portable ( Ver 3-9-7-1627 )
While the 5x version doesn't seem to have a portable version?
My rule is, I will no longer install anything that tangles itself up with Windows registry/DLLs/-bullshit, etc. Portable or nothing. So I'll be trying the 3.9x version of FDM.
In this day & age, why does anyone develop software that doesn't have a portableApps option? All my tools are on one removable disk drive, that I can clone or plug into any new PC I use. Never have to reinstall dozens of utilities every time I change PC again.

v3 can make a portable version on a USB drive to run and that is what I did so I can still have the same control as the v3 on my desktop. When you open the main FDM in v3 just go to "File" and scroll down and you will see the option "Create portable version". So it's there you will see it if you look there.
