Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 u5br
HELLO
I have a problems with FDM after migrating from default Firefox file er + uTorrent.
These problems come with .torrent s.
In my opinion, it looks like same as in FDM as previously in uTorrent (with no port forwarded/routed = ive mode)
In my opinion Bittorent in FDM works in IVE mode only.
Thats why i have 5 torrent s in the list of files to in FDM, trying to start the and nothing happens. never starts, altough it looks like, FDM is trying.
When i switch back to uTorrent - with no forwarded port = in ive mode = same s will never start too. But when i allow uTorrent using a earlier forwarded port, which i had to also fill in the column in uTorrent, it switched to active mode and all s worked.
Question is:
- is really FDM bittorent plugin working only in IVE mode?
- i was searching for some column to fill in the port, i have forwarded on my router earlier, but i havent found any place to fill in
- is there some way to get these torrents s working, hot to get ACTIVE mode for torrents in FDM?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hello,
Because i have already tried many many options and this was bit earlier, i have already deleted mentioned links from FDM and also from UTORRENT, which was btw first/only program, which those torrents started ing and then later, succesfully ed.
In my opinion - and thats also my question, because i only guess - IS FDM ABLE TO USE ACTIVE MODE with torrents?
Because that was the only difference, i found from my view between FDM and UTORRENT.
Also if manually closed internet port for UTORRENT, so that was able only to use ive torrent mode (no active mode anymore), wasnt starting too, so = > thats the reason of my idea above.
So should i similiar links, when i discover them again???
These were ordinary torrents from torrents.eu / torrents.com finder.

Re: Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 4v70r
Can you explain your understanding of "active mode" and "ive mode" in torrent?
Do you know what ports are used for torrent protocol in your FDM and utorrent client? Are they the same ports?
Are you connected to the Internet directly or through the router? Have you set any port forwarding on the router?
Do the trackers you use require to be logged in? Have you provided your name and for the trackers in FDM (f.e. using Site Manager)?
If you want to be helpful you should follow recommendations described in "How to report a bug" topic and provide at least a link to the problematic torrent and logs for that torrent. Help us to help you, please. Complaining is futile

Re: Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 4v70r
Hello,
thanks for your reply and sorry for big delay between mine, but i was not sure if it is a real problem for me or not, but i wanna to solve / close this, so..
Active x ive torrent mode
- you are in active mode, when you have forwarded selected t/udp port (s) for used torrent client, so you have to own public ip address and also have proper settings in router, if you have router.
- otherwise you are marked as in ive mode
- actives can from all peers - from active or ive (!!!), but
- ives can only from people with client in active mode only (!!!!!!!!!!)
So number of sources = peers, that are avaiable for of desired file is always significantly higher for , when he is in active mode than in ive mode. Also, when you are in ive mode, and there are not many peers avaible, often happens, that won't start, because they alll ive too. So is much better have active mode.
But i have found no information about this and regarding FDM yet.
Only i have found is setting 1 port in FDM settings for Bittorent (is this it?)
Also i im not sure, if im as active or ive, because it's not shown anywhere (normal torrent ers, show this information)
I appreciate more information regarding this..
Because i wanted to replace my standalone client uTorrent, which was simply perfect, with FDM and im still feeling some difference between ing speed, avaible peers and ing trackers. Maybe im wrong and it's nothing, maybe not..
But i havent found info regarding torrents, ive x active mode and FDM, if FDM one mode, both?

Re: Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 4v70r
The info you have qouted is outdated. It was valid for the very first bittorrent protocol versions that used some well known port numbers. Moder bittorrent protocol versions may use any available port number and just work no matter what way you are connected to the Internet, if you only can any tracker.
Some bittorrent clients still keep ive/active mode info as legacy setting for compatibility reasons. FDM uses modern bittorrent protocol versions that don't use mode info so you don't need it.
You can see difference in speed because of the way FDM automatically determines network settings. If you don't like it, you can change network settings manually.

Re: Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 4v70r
Usher thank you for your reply, i understand .. for me, these are new information, because i had some old knowledge (as i wrote earlier and above), but as you confirmed, it is not up to date, seems so.
I had to ask, because i was having some problems during end of last year and start of this year, when i wanted to .torrents , typically when these torrents had very low amount seeders/peers, but files were 100% available.
When i switched from FDM back to old version of uTorrent, s, which in FDM never started to (after manual starting them) (reason is not important, anyway i dont know exact reason - could not trackers or peers, i dont know)
everything started work ok and i ed these torrents without problems.
Now about half year later, i wanted to try FDM again (without standalone 3rd party side torrents er), i have it installed and that is why this question appeared. Still seems working ok.
Thanks

If you have problems with your tracker and FDM, try following suggestions:
1. Use Site Manager in FDM to provide your name and for the tracker, if needed.
2. Ask the tracker s whether they ban any torrent clients or use other restrictions (f.e seeding ratio).

Re: Torrent (Bittorent) plugin with 3.9 build 1249 4v70r
Hello soundguy,
I noticed that you did not mentioned anything about DHT, by default uTorrent has it enabled, but FDM doesn't. Check in your settings to see if you have DHT enabled, because that might be the reason why torrents with a low number of peers fail to start in FDM (Especially if the tracker is offline).
More on DHT:
Also you can set what ports (port range) you want FDM to use in the same settings "page" where you can enable the DHT functionality.

Even though there is no where to be found in FDM's interface, FDM does have UPnP, so if you have that enabled on your router you don't need to bother forwarding the ports manually.

Hope this helps!

More on DHT:
A distributed tracker that works similarly to a regular tracker in that you announce to it and get back a list of peers that are transferring the same .torrent file as you. Because DHT is distributed, there is no single point of failure, so even if a single node disconnects from DHT, the tracker will continue to work (unlike with normal trackers, where if the server goes down, it becomes unusable). DHT can be thought of as a backup tracker.
