FDM using different path for Video pop-up s. What am I doing wrong? 3l584p

Hi All ,

O/S: Win 7 (x64). FDM: Version: 3.9.6 PC Build 1549, Browser: Firefox 30.0.5 RELEASE with FDM Plug-in 1.7.3.2


A year ago I decided to move my s folder to "D:\ Special Folders\Desktop\s".
I did it the Windows correct way and that path is recognized by Windows and other apps as the default official Windows s path.

I set FDM to to THAT path for ALL s.

I very few videos and in the past have not used the FDM to do so.
Yesterday and today, when in YouTube, I clicked on the with FDM pop-up that appears top left of video and indeed after a 20 second delay (is it supposed to take that long - could it be my Avast Anti-virus checking all the possible options offered by FDM that causes the delay?? a FDM pop-up window appears showing its auto ticked suggested options for ing together with other alternatives I can set if desired. (I am sure that is normal and correct).
The Pop-up window also shows the default path FDM will save to. THIS Video path is where I have a problem as it shows my OLD path ("C:\s\\Desktop\s\") not used for over a year AND which is NOT the path I set in FDM for ALL FDM s.

ALL OTHER FDM s default to my chosen path of "D:\ Special Folders\Desktop\s"


Windows knows that Folder is NO LONGER the special Folder and FDM has been separately told to used "D:\ Special Folders\Desktop\s"

I searched the registry for "C:\s\\Desktop\s\" and nothing was found.
I am guessing FDM has a config file which has held on to the incorrect old path and my changing the FDM default path did not do so for s via the Video pop-up,

I will search for the incorrect entry and try to edit if I can HOWEVER, I feel sure it is intended that FDM should default to the path chosen by and set as default for FDM. Obviously the can override each path if he/she chooses but it should not be necessary.

I have confirmed same happens if using Internet Explorer 11 Browser.

I think this is a FDM BUG. Please can somebody confirm if so or not, and if so, fix the issue when convenient

It's not a bug, it's a well known missing feature.

FDM may recognize different types of s and use different settings for them (usually defined as a separate group). Some default settings are hardcoded in FDM.exe, some of them you can change and FDM will keep them in its service files (*.sav). F.e. you can:
- change settings for default folder and for folders of any default group;
- define your own groups;
- assign some settings (including credentials and group) for a specific site.

Notes:
1. If you change default folder, folders for all groups may be reset and you should define them once again.
2. Not all FDM features are available for all types of s. FDM doesn't use full-featured "Add " dialog window for all types of s. If any option is missing in a dialog window for some type, then -defined settings for that option may be ignored. In some cases you can provide your own settings manually, in some other cases hardcoded settings may be used.

After my OP I cleared my History and that not only removed my History, of course, BUT also 3 alternative s sites FDM was "ing". After doing that, FDM now offers my Default FDM folder (or maybe its picking up the Windows Default folder (either way they are same on my PC so I am happy).

I nearly always everything to the same folder no matter what the matter is as this is much easier for me to control and find.

Unless I now override the "pop-up window's offered path it will FDM will always offer my desired Default path. I am also guessing THAT each time the path offered will be based upon "Last Path used")

You are right - and it's the only option currently available in FDM 5 alpha for all types.

Note that in some cases in FDM 3.x "last selected group" is used rather than group assigned for a site (or type), and this IS a bug to me - if an option is available, it should work as declared in FDM settings for regular s.
