Add date to "query size" 4r4c5b
Please add Date to the "Query size" for people to know if a new version of the file which are trying to is available (and don't waste bandwidth ing the same version)
A very good example of this feature exist in Getright

You know that for many s it will be current date and time or it won't work at all because of redirections?

"for many" is debatable cause e.g. from my daily usage of getright there are none since I'm using this feature only to check for updates for drivers & apps
Also this is a simple way to solve the "Check update" feature suggestion too
P.S. this is the only feature for which I'm still using Getright since it's so outdated = a pain in the...

How do you check for updates on Sourceforge?

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
Can't you see you will be checking the same version 3.0.852 forever? You will never find any newer version because they will be in different folders, see: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freedow ... 20Manager/
And in most cases there are not only folders with numbers there, filenames also contain version number or date stamp. Try to check another projects: sevenzip (archiver), dejavu (fonts), ffdshow-tryout (codecs), etc.

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
The most common usage is to use the same location for the file e.g Skype, Avast, Avira, PerfectDisk ... and many other
Anyway I don't see why so much fuss about adding a query for the date too since the command / function already exist for the size ?

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
I am only trying to explain that comparing date stamps and file sizes is not a good way to be really informed about all updates. So why to implement option of very little use?

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
Hey I'm all for a better solution and again "very little use" it's subjective, look at how many people are asking for such a feature (and keep in mind that for every person who's bothering to write here making a request there are many more looking for the same feature)
Also I was thinking that at this point the effort to implement it / usefulness ratio it's very good

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
I completely agree with jondoe_ !!!
Query Size & Date is for us potentially EX-GetRight-s not a 'little use'... its a DAiLY use !!!

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
I agree also.
I've been a GetRight for over 13 years.
With slow Internet (dialup, then satellite) it was essential that I didn't waste bandwidth ing the same file twice.
GetRight gave me the Date (and size) at least 80% of the time for files I checked.
I really like FDM, but I still use GetRight to check the Date!

Re: Add date to "query size" 374k5i
Like Ted M, I've been using GetRight for a very long time, and more recently FDM. The one thing I miss in FDM now is being able to preview the date/timestamp on files. I use the information before starting s, for naming folders with version and date. I recognise it's not available 100% of the time, but it's enough to be useful, especially often when a site's release notes don't say the release date.
I work in a large organisation in a team responsible for managing ed media, and this would be a nice improvement that would save me a bit of backtracking.
Other people here have indicated some other uses they would have for this feature, too.
FDM seems capable of getting the date AFTER the in many cases - so please can this same capability be included in the pre- query also? If it's 'unavailable', then at least it would have tried.
This feature has been requested on this site by numerous contributors for many years, so I hope this post will nudge this request over the edge, and also be included in FDM 5.
Thank you.
