you all think fdm is good, have you no realized the reason it is/got good is because it is not cross platform/linux? there is almost no cross platform, decent software (there are some, but vary rare). freeware is almost always higher quality than open source, have you not noticed?(I know fdm is now opensourca and has been for some time, but no updates since) if you switch to linux you should be prepared to accept a lack of quality software and to resort to emulating windows as best you can! also, takeisn't it the opensource attatude if you want it write it your self!

It's a long time since I have read such a cr*p. Stay with your windows, nobody will miss you in the linux camp. Stay with your closed source, nobody will miss you outside.
Havent't you realised your lack of control over MS Windows? No? This means you are just one of those customers who use their computer for writing some texts, browsing the web and playing games - buying a new computer every few years because your shiny Windows Desktop can now display transparency. Great! Microsoft loves you. Some people on the other hand prefer to be in control - to have control what other people say can't be controlled or it's impossible by design. Welcome to Linux and friends. Nobody tells you it can't be done, because it can be done IF you want it. Control the kernel, control the hardware - there are no limits. Try that with MS Windows. And if you like games, well Linux is probably the most complex RPG - Strategy mix you'll come across.

I am using FDM on different Linuxes but running it inside an XP Virtual Machine (www.vmware.com - the VMPlayer (to run the virtual machines) is free but you need VMWare Workstation to create your virtual PC. A trial version for Workstation can be obtained on the website).
Works really neatly and is much more convenient that shutting down and restarting in Windows (besides I don't have any non-virtual Windows installations anyway)
